I'm heading to Germany from July 15-22 as part of a group of 2- and 3Gs (children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors) to participate in dialogues with children and grandchildren of Holocaust perpetrators.
This is my grandma. She was 23--one year older than I am now--when she was liberated from Bergen-Belsen.
As the population of living Holocaust survivors dwindles, it's more important than ever (for me, at least) to bear witness and pledge to never forget our histories. My grandma, and the life she led before, during, and after the Holocaust, is why I will never forget. I know what it's like to be the grandchild of a Holocaust survivor, and pass on this legacy--but I don't know what it's like from the other side. Yet.
Are you familiar with the series "One Third of the Holocaust"?
